| BETSY'S UNDERSEA MURAL Betsy's art project for the winter of 2001 was a large undersea mural in our rec room. The mural features above and below water vistas as seen from the perspective of the ocean floor. Although the port is St. Thomas, fish from around the world swim about, including dolphins, hammerheads, giant sea turtles, jellyfish, and manta rays. These photos were taken in February 2002, before the completion of the mural... and it is interesting to note the outlines and layers of the "fish in progress" such as the lobster and lion fish in the final photo below. Most of the mural is shown here, but because it is indoors, it was not possible to photograph the complete mural. |

| Above: close ups reveal several humorous details including a lobster guarding the treasure chest and a crab that's become tangeled in coral (it tried to extract a pearl from an oyster). Below Center: The mural includes people fishing, sailing, and diving. A seahorse corrals the "herd" of cattlefish. Right: A fisherman delights in his huge catch... unaware that Jaws also wants that fish. A nearby blowfish puffs up in alarm, and a cat on the wharf watches in amusement. Most of the fish are (basically) accurate, although a few holiday fish are imaginary creations. There are 365 featured fish (one for each day of the year, including a green St.Paddy's fish, and easter egg fish, and a valentine fish). There are also about a hundred background "shadow" fish. | ||||
